Sometimes, as a parent, you can sense that your child’s school isn’t fully seeing the whole picture—whether it’s learning differences, attention challenges, behavioral concerns, or emotional needs. When a school-based evaluation doesn’t feel complete or doesn’t match what you’re seeing at home, you have the right to request an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE).
We take the time to understand your child’s strengths, challenges, learning style, and social-emotional needs, as well as the academic and behavioral supports they may need both in school and at home—helping inform IEPs, 504 plans, and other school-based accommodations.

An IEE is a private, third-party evaluation funded by your child’s school district when you—the parent—disagree with the results of the school’s evaluation or believe additional information is needed.
It offers a deeper, more individualized look at your child’s learning, behavior, and emotional well-being. -
Our IEEs are very similar to our comprehensive neurodevelopmental and psychoeducational assessments. The biggest difference is simply the process: they’re initiated through the public school district and require a district contract before we begin. But for you and your child, the experience, care, and attention remain exactly the same.

IEEs often open doors, create clarity, and help schools better understand and support your child. Families use our IEEs to:

While your child’s school must officially approve the IEE, we work hard to make everything on your end feel as stress-free as possible. We take the lead on coordination so you can focus on your child—not the paperwork.
How Are Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE) Performed?

An IEE begins when you request it from your child’s school district and they agree to move forward. Once approved, the district sends us a contract or work order so we can begin the process.

Once the contract is in place, we meet with you and your child to talk through your concerns, your child’s history, and any questions you want the evaluation to explore.
This is a relaxed conversation—not a test—and it helps us understand your child as a whole person.

A range of learning, intelligence, and aptitude tests will be administered over the course of two separate sessions. Because each evaluation is completely individualized, exact timing can vary, but total testing time is usually about 5–7 hours. We do our utmost to ensure each child is comfortable throughout their visit—slowing down and taking breaks as needed.
In addition to assessments for each child, caregivers and teachers will also receive questionnaires to help us see your child’s strengths and challenges from multiple perspectives.

After your child’s IEE is complete, we carefully review everything we’ve gathered—their assessment results, school records (such as IEPs, 504 plans, teacher feedback, and grade reports), any counseling notes, and relevant medical information.
We take the time to look at the full picture, not just the scores, so we can provide a clear, thoughtful understanding of your child’s learning profile.

About four weeks after your child’s evaluation sessions, we’ll meet with you for a feedback appointment to review findings, diagnoses, and any recommendations. Within 48 hours, you’ll receive a detailed written report that you can share with the school. For older children and teens, we may also schedule a brief individual session to review results and answer their questions.
